I went out to get food for the day, doing bike stuff like getting a new chain and moving the front to the rear and vice versa, and chatting with the other cyclists.
Oh yeah. And buying a Velorution jersey. It's black which is perfect for touring as it won't show the dirt. Too bad it can't do anything about the smell.
The cyclists were a couple from Austria riding a tandem. A guy from Germany that looked far younger than his 70 years, a woman from Campbell River, B.C. These four people came up from Michigan which isn't very far away. There was also another couple from Vancouver Island who started in Peterborough and were riding home to Victoria. There was one other cyclist who no one saw as he arrived in the dark and left probably before 6.
I've met a couple of cyclists now who are trying to get the ride over as quickly as possible. I think they are riding around 200 km per day.
It was another hot and humid day with the sun hiding behind clouds most of the time.
Along the way there are a few places to stop to get a cold drink or snack. One of these places is Bruce Mines, Canada's first copper mine. I almost stopped here but missed the turnoff for the campground somewhere so I just peddled on and thought I'd try Thessalon. It's off the highway a bit and the trailer park seems pretty quiet so I'm counting on a good night and an early start tomorrow.
The weather forecast for tomorrow is a 60% chance of rain and possible thunderstorms.
I hope not.

ReplyDeleteI think I met that same couple on the tandem in Thessalon. Glad they found the shop. I had given them the brochure I had that showed the bike-friendly route along Government road.
