The best night's sleep costs the most and that would be at a motel. Unless you happen to get a motel with a bar downstairs. On a Friday night. And the local band is playing.
But I've always found them to be the quietest.
Next in price and quiet are provincial parks. In Ontario a site can cost as much as $40. It seems like the campers who go to these parks know how to be quiet and these parks usually have a bit of privacy between sites.
Then there are the private campsites run as a business and they usually cram the campers in. The campers I find at these campgrounds are a noisy lot. And these campsites run anywhere from $10 to $30.
I chose Lands End Park to camp as it was recommended by Mac, the motorcyclist I met in Osoyoos. I found it noisy and a bit crowded.
Adding to my lack of sleep last night was my mattress. I thought I'd got all the leaks fixed but apparently not as I woke up a couple of times laying only millimeters away from the hard ground. So Big Agnes is going to be mailed home for further inspection and I bought a new Thermorest Pro Plus at Suntrail Adventures just outside of Owen Sound.
The ride today was pretty good despite the continuous off and on rain showers. After the third time I just left my raingear on and got sweaty. There was a tailwind which helped and the road was in good shape. There was some construction West of Meaford but it was worth passing through because East of Meaford was last years paving job. It is such a treat to ride on smooth pavement.
My lunch stop was at the home of Wiarton Willie. Canada's own weather foretelling groundhog. I didn't see Willie but I did see where he lives. Kind of like viewing homes of famous people in Hollywood. Canadian style.
As I changed direction and started to head East again I noticed that many of the buildings are made of that red brick.
Tonight I'm camped at Craigleith Provincial Park. It sits right on the shore of Georgian Bay. I splurged tonight and got a waterfront site. So I'm typing this to the continuous sound of the surf pounding on the shoreline. I keep thinking at beside an ocean.
The sunset tonight was amazing and it's looking like the weather is starting to improve.
