So much different than yesterday.
Good flat roads, good weather, light traffic and a tailwind.
I haven't had a tailwind like that since the Prairies. I was speeding along in the mid-30kph range for quite a while.
Don't forget that's with 45 lbs. of stuff.
I've noticed that when stormy weather has done it's damage it leaves in the wind. The wind usually comes from the West.
At times I feel like a sailor trying to read the wind direction and hoping it matches my course.
Today was my last day riding on Hwy 132. It's like saying goodbye to a friend. Whenever I'd wonder if I was on the right road I'd just wait until I got to an intersection, just any intersection, and there would always be a green and white sign showing me which way Hwy 132 Est is.
It seems like every town, or village, has a church or cathedral.
I didn't take pictures of all of them.
I thought the giant ice-cream cone was a nice juxtaposition of photos.
And how often to you get to have your picture taken with a statue? Usually they are up on a pedastal out of reach of the common man or cyclist. And he's to scale!
Today was also the last time I'll see the St. Lawrence River. There are many scenic viewpoints along it's banks and many beautiful homes looking out to it.
Tonight I'm staying at the Auberge International Hostel in Rivière-du-Loup. It's very nice. Situated in a huge old home. There are also private rooms in the building in the back. That's where I am. It's nice to hang out with other travellers, many who speak English. There are also some cyclists who are doing nice short trips around the region. I got a chance to get some laundry done. Mainly drying out things from yesterday.
I went for a walk into town. It's a very nice looking town with many restaurants and shops. I came across the unmistakable smell of popcorn and knew that a movie theatre was close by.
Good guess. Good nose.

So Chris, I'm curious. Is "La Route Verte" a separate road just for cyclists or is it just a lane on a highway?
ReplyDeleteYou're really putting in the kilometres these days.
Are you taking the rail trail to Edmundston tomorrow?
ReplyDeleteSorry, I guess that would be today :)
