Sorry. There won't be any nice pictures to look at in this post.
But I can tell you that it looks like my journey across Canada will be starting on Saturday June 18th. That depends on the weather and if there are any details in my life to attend to. You know. Things like leaky pipes or a sick dog.
I've picked the 18th because my wife, Val, has that day off and our plan is for me to ride the 60 km. to Sidney and camp the night at McDonald Park and she'll drive to the park and bring dinner. We'll spend our last hours together before I catch the first ferry on Sunday morning and really get underway.
I've been training with weight on the bike now. Actually I've been riding with about half my full 43 lbs. at the moment. I've packed my supplies in the panniers and seen how it will all fit. I've just got to figure which tools I'll be taking. Otherwise I've got all my clothes, spare parts, camping and food figured out where it all goes.
I've also been downloading music onto my "super phone" for those times at the campsite or motel when a little entertainment is required. And because this is a cross Canada trip what better way to celebrate than to listen to those iconic artists like Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, The Guess Who, The Band, Leonard Cohen, Oscar Peterson and others like the Tragically Hip, Feist, Sarah Harmer, and Diana Krall. But I know I've left a lot out so if you've got a favourite Canadian artist which you think I should be taking with me, one which would get along okay while camping and roughing it a bit, let me know. Send me an email or post your comment at the end of this posting. I can't promise you a travel mug or commemorative pen for your trouble but you could get a mention here on the Chris Across Canada blog.
Fame starts somewhere.
