Day 13 Nelson to Creston 118 km

I was up at my usual 5 but with visiting Jude and Graham I didn't get going until after 9.
Graham was the buddy who was going to ride along with me for a week or so but has had to cancel as his father is in bad health so Graham had to go and see him in Calgary.
All the best to your Dad Graham.
I would of included some photos but my phone has been making them disappear, which I think I got fixed now.
I did more visiting as I stopped in to Maureen's house which is only 7km from the Kootenay Lake ferry.
After saying goodbye to Maureen I got to the ferry just as it was loading. The Kootenay Lake ferry is the world's longest free ferry ride. It takes 35 minutes and the scenery is amazing.
The ride from the ferry to Creston was okay. Hills up and hills down. I arrived in Creston at just past 7 which is way too late for me but I had wanted to get here. Arriving late means that I also get to bed late.
Not a bad day but a late start.

Day 14 Creston to Cranbrook 108 km.

Creston is an agricultural centre in the East Kootenays of British Columbia. It sits in a beautiful valley divided into fields of various farming ventures.
The terrain in today's ride was different. The hills were never steep but were often long. But those were followed by just as long and gradual downhills. There was quite a lot of traffic on the road mainly heading the other direction. The road had good shoulders to ride on most of the way. Some sketchy areas before Kitchener had no shoulders and were quite bumpy but the traffic was light then.
I crossed into the Mountain Time Zone so lost an hour today which made it another late ending day. This being Canada Day long weekend I didn't want to risk cycling into campsites 4 km or more only to find they are full so I managed to get a motel and went out for dinner so that I can get back to my early up and early arrival schedule. When you are going to arriive late you don't have any time to spend looking in the small shops along the way.
So now I'm in Cranbrook and looking East you can see the Rockies.
Tomorrow I'm hoping to make it to Fernie.
I'm very tired as I post this. My eyelids are getting heavy.
Time for some sleep.

Day 12 Rest Day in Nelson

Today was another rest and visiting day.
I moved from Cyndi and Todd's house and went to Jude and Graham's. Jude and Graham's is an easy cycle into town. After dropping of my stuff I rode around town doing some sightseeing. Having lived here for over 20 years it's all very familiar. And since Nelson is a small town (pop. 10,000) it's always easy to see someone you know.
Nelson was a former mining and government centre but is now a popular tourist destination. Outdoor activities are many. Skiing, mountain biking, and hiking are just a few. Restaurants are everywhere as are many art galleries. It's very much like Ashland Oregon where I was in May.
I'd like to thank Cyndi, Todd and Mclain for letting me do laundry and giving a place to sleep. Jude and Graham too. And thanks for the great meals. Nothing like home cooking.
Thanks also to Gord, John, Bob, Maureen, Nancy and especially Pam for organizing our retired posties luncheon and paying for my lunch.
Thanks also to Judith and George for the coffee and talk at the Dominion Cafe.
It was great to be back in Nelson.
